My previous works
First Reflection- HW Assignment #1So far throughout the Philosophy course I have found myself learning a lot of new things and finding that most assignments cannot be left towards the very end. For my second reflection I chose to write about our first homework assignment. Before I begin on this reflection and change all that I can, I must say that this had to be the first that I put till the last minute and that was a bad mistake. For some reason I assumed that it was a couple of questions but I don’t know why I felt that way when I had read the previous emails or even the instructions. I got lazy. That was one major flaw and it greatly affected my way of doing the assignment. Because of the lack of time that I did not allow myself I could not succeed in it. If I had to change anything when working on this it would have to be time management. The way the assignment was set up made me put in all previous works from other assignments and it contributed to it. It was a bit challenging to find the differences between a credible/non-credible poll. Although I felt as if the little features that I found helped me in how to approach a source. One source was a blog, which right from the beginning made me feel as if it was not credible but it did offer the sources of which all the data came from. Everything from the beginning of this course has contributed to the assignments that we are assigned now which makes me realize that I should not just throw out certain ideas just because a module is done for the week. Moving forward I really want to focus on allowing myself sufficient time and also incorporating previous terms and concepts, as it would benefit my current assignments.

Second- Group Discussion #1Just like everyone else, I too felt that the group discussions has by far been the most interesting assignment done for this course and maybe not for the same reasoning as everyone else. The deadlines listed in the group discussions, although were the same as our normal discussions, I felt as though it was a lot harder to contribute or discuss if there wasn't much there in the discussion forum. At the end of the day, it was different than other discussions because everyone needed to contribute in order for everyone to move forward. This assignment taught me how to explain myself more, as I had to when other students responded back to me. Although this was a beginning discussion I still was a bit worried because I did not know exactly what was to be expected and since some questions were a little hard for me to understand just alone it seemed like more of a challenge to answer and respond to others. This discussion helped me prepare myself in order to contribute to a conversation and that it something I am working on; I cannot add to something if I don't know anything about it myself fully. Moving forward, I am wanting to work on how I explain myself a lot better to others especially. Speaking over any form of online communication can add more miscommunication so I want to avoid that.
1. The components of an argument consist of accepting a claim, then rebutting with a position on the said issue which is then broken down into two parts: premise(s) and conclusion.
An example would be if someone were to say that 5+4=10 (1 person is wrong). One person might assume that while a majority of people(Overall general agreement) will argue 5+4=9 (truth value) 4. Deductive arguments I would say are based on facts such as percentages and background supports while inductive arguments are created from beliefs, morals, past impressions.

It definitely helped me understand what the question was asking for. For your first example in question 4, I was a bit confused by your example. Was the explanation of the conclusion for the argument or were you concluding the argument? from Group Assignment 1: initial responses due 3/27, final response by 4/3 - First Group Discussion 4 Apr 3, 2016 10:58pm Brandy Suarez-AguilarYour explanation made me understand the formula of both arguments, thank you! I'll work on making arguments more clear haha from Group Assignment 1: initial responses due 3/27, final response by 4/3 - First Group Discussion 4 Apr 3, 2016 11:04pm Brandy Suarez-AguilarHi Yasaman, I reviewed what you responded back to me and it made perfect sense. I referred back to it as I was studying and definitely made note of your explanation so thank you! from Group Assignment 1: initial responses due 3/27, final response by 4/3 - First Group Discussion 4 Apr 3, 2016 11:09pm Brandy Suarez-AguilarHey Marina, If I am being honest I had not looked at the key words in depth and that would probably explain my confusion. It answers the question of what key words imply a premise or conclusion. |
and Third Reflection- HW Assignment #2Personally I loved this assignment out of all of them. Although it was a bit hard in the beginning try to figure out if Drake's Nothing Was The Same Album is to be considered Functionalist or Formalist, I loved the process of figuring it out as I wrote it out. Being able to breakdown the look of the album realistically and then writing about it metaphorically, regarding all the songs and messages included. It intrigued me to see something that I already considered art because of what is in the CD itself go through a screening process, it seems, when being considered art.
